Sheol Shattered — The Earthquake Beneath the Earth

✦ “Thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol, neither wilt thou suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.”
— Psalm 16:10 ✦

Section One: What Is Sheol?

In the ancient texts, Sheol is the realm of the dead — a holding place beneath the earth where souls awaited judgment.
It was divided into two compartments:

  • Abraham’s Bosom (also called Paradise): where the righteous awaited comfort and rest.
  • The Pit / Abyss: where the wicked awaited torment, and the rebellious spirits of the Nephilim groaned in chains (see 1 Enoch 21, 2 Kefa (Peter) 2:4, Jude 1:6).

Before Yahusha’s resurrection, no soul ascended to the throne of Yahuah.
Even the righteous awaited the promised redemption.

“No man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of Adam…”
— John 3:13

This was the great pause in the story — the moment of waiting.
But it would not last forever.

Section Two: The Descent of the Son

When Yahusha gave up His spirit on the stake, the veil tore in two — but that was just the beginning.

“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish,
so shall the Son of Adam be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
— Matthew 12:40

Yahusha descended into Sheol — not in defeat, but in victory.

He came bearing authority, carrying the name and power that shattered darkness.

He proclaimed judgment upon:

  • The rebellious Watchers, who had corrupted mankind (1 Kefa (Peter) 3:19–20)
  • The demons and unclean spirits, children of the Nephilim
  • The gates of death, which had held the righteous hostage since the beginning

“He led captivity captive…” — Ephesians 4:8
“He spoiled principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them.” — Colossians 2:15

This was not a quiet moment.
It was a cosmic quake felt in the deep.

Section Three: The Shattering and Rising

The moment Yahusha shattered Sheol, the earth responded:

“And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
And came out of the graves after His resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.”
— Matthew 27:52–53

This was not metaphor.
The righteous rose, walked, and were witnesses.

This was the first wave of resurrection — a sign that death’s power was broken.

Yahusha emerged not just alive — but glorified, holding the keys:

“I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amein;
and have the keys of Sheol and of Death.”
— Revelation 1:18

The gates of Sheol could not stand against Him.

It was shattered.

Closing Reflection

Let this scroll be a banner of victory and a reminder:
Sheol is no longer the same.

For the righteous, death has no sting, and the grave has no final claim.
The one who holds the keys has opened the way — not just to life, but to resurrected glory.

This is why we fear not death.

This is why we endure with hope.

This is why we press forward — knowing that Yahusha went before us, shattered the gates, and waits on the other side of the veil.
