The modern Jewish calendar (Hillel II, 359 AY) and the “Lunar Sabbath” heresy are rooted in Babylonian moon-worship, NOT the Hebrew Scriptures.
In Jubilees 6:36–37, the angel warned Mosheh: “For there will be those who will assuredly make observations of the moon—how it disturbs the seasons and comes in ten days too small every year… and they will make a common day a set-apart day, and an unclean day a clean day.”

2. The 4 Fatal Flaws of the Lunar Calendar

Flaw #1: The 10-Day Annual Deficit

  • The moon completes a cycle in approximately 29.5 days ().
  • This is 10 days shorter than the true 364-day creation year.
  • Within just 3 years, a lunar calendar drifts by over 30 days, causing spring feasts like Passover to drift into the dead of winter!
  • To fix their broken system, the rabbis borrowed the Babylonian Metonic cycle, inserting an artificial 13th month (Adar II) 7 times every 19 years. Scripture never commands a 13th month!

Flaw #2: The “Lunar Sabbath” Destroys the Unbroken 7-Day Cycle

  • Proponents of the “Lunar Sabbath” claim that the weekly Sabbath resets with every new moon.
  • Because a moon cycle has 29 or 30 days, their “weeks” contain 8 or 9 days between Sabbaths during the new moon transition!
  • This directly violates Exodus 20:9–10:

    “Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of Yahuah thy Elohim.”

  • You cannot work 7 or 8 days and call the 9th day a Sabbath. The creation week has never been interrupted since Genesis 1.

Flaw #3: The Origin of the Moon Cult: The Deity “Sin”

  • In ancient Sumer, Akkad, and Babylon, the primary moon god was named Sin (also known as Nanna).
  • The crescent moon was his standard, and his high seat was in Ur of the Chaldees (the very city from which Avraham was called to separate!).
  • When Israel turned away from Yahuah in Babylon, they adopted the Babylonian names of the months (Nisan, Iyyar, Tammuz, Elul, Tishri) and began tracking feasts by the crescent moon of Sin, which Rome and Islam later adopted.

Flaw #4: What Was the Moon’s True Purpose?

  • In Genesis 1:14–19, the lights are for signs, appointed times (Moedim), days, and years.
  • In 1 Enoch 73–74, Enoch explains that the moon is a secondary luminary whose light waxes and wanes to demonstrate the decrease of darkness, while the Sun governs the days and the years.
  • The moon follows the sun; the sun does not follow the moon!

3. The Dead Sea Scrolls & Zadokite Priests Witness

When archaeologists discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls (Qumran) in 1947, the most explosive discovery was the Mishmarot (Priestly Service) Scrolls:

  • The Zadokite High Priests of the Second Temple fled into the wilderness because corrupt Hellenized and Babylonian priests had taken over the Temple in Jerusalem and instituted a lunar calendar!
  • The Dead Sea Scrolls contain the complete, preserved priestly roster proving that the true priests of Yahuah maintained the 364-day solar calendar, where the priestly courses rotated without interruption in 52-week cycles.

  1. Reject the Sliver Moon: Stop watching for moon slivers in the night sky to tell you when a month starts.

Question 1: “Doesn’t Psalm 104:19 say: ‘He appointed the moon for seasons’?”

  • The Defense:
    1. The Hebrew word translated “seasons” is Moedim (מועדים), which means appointed times or signals.
    2. But read the very next line of the verse: “The sun knows his going down. You make darkness, and it is night” (Psalm 104:19–20).
    3. In Genesis 1:16–18, the moon was created specifically as the lesser light to rule the night. The moon marks nighttime appointments and watches of the night (Enoch 78), while the Sun alone governs the days, months, and 364-day year (Enoch 72:35–37)!

Question 2: “When did Rabbinic Judaism switch to a lunar-based calendar?”

  • The Defense:
    1. In 359 AY, Rabbi Hillel II codified the modern fixed mathematical Hebrew calendar, adopting the Babylonian 19-year Metonic lunar-solar cycle to avoid Roman persecution.
    2. Prior to this, the true Zadokite priests of the Second Temple period (as proven by the Dead Sea Scrolls) strictly adhered to the 364-day solar calendar.
    3. When the corrupt Hasmonean and Herodian political appointees compromised with Greek and Babylonian lunar cycles, the Zadokite priests withdrew to Qumran to preserve the uncorrupted solar calendar!

Question 3: “What is the danger of the ‘Lunar Sabbath’ doctrine?”
