✦ STEP 1: THE 10 WORDS OF COVENANT LIFE ✦
Covenant Foundation
In Hebrew, they are not called “The Ten Commandments” (Mitzvot); they are called Aseret Ha’Devarim (עֲשֶׂרֶת הַדְּבָרִים) — The Ten Words or Ten Declarations of Life.
They are the marriage vows spoken directly from Mount Sinai between Yahuah and His gathered remnant (Exodus 20 / Deuteronomy 5).

The Master Contrast Table
| # | The Western Religious Slogan | The Restored Hebrew Witness | What Rome Did to Destroy It | Living Covenant Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ”Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” | “I am Yahuah your Elohim… you shall have no foreign deities before My face.” | Replaced Yahuah with generic “The Lord” so people unknowingly worship Ba’al. | Sole allegiance to the Creator. No church hierarchy, pastor, pope, or government between you and Yahuah. |
| 2 | ”Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” | “You shall not make a carved likeness or bow to any image in heaven, earth, or waters.” | Roman Catholicism deleted this commandment entirely and split the 10th into two to hide their statue worship. | Eradicate all statues, painted Renaissance portraits of “Jesus”, crucifixes, and religious idols from your dwelling. |
| 3 | ”Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.” | “You shall not lift up the Name of Yahuah your Elohim to bring it to ruin, emptiness, or vanity (lashav).” | Church taught this only means “cursing”. Translators actually broke it by erasing His Name 6,800 times. | Guard His Name: Speak Yahuah. Never treat it as common, and never bring shame upon it by wicked conduct. |
| 4 | ”Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” | “Remember the day of Yom Shabbat, to set it apart (le’qadesho). Six days you labor, the seventh is Shabbat to Yahuah.” | Emperor Constantine and Rome changed the rest day to pagan Sun’s Day (321 AY) and Council of Laodicea (364 AY). | Cease all servile work, commercial trade, and buying/selling on Yom Shabbat (Day 7). Dedicate it to prayer and study. |
| 5 | ”Honor thy father and thy mother.” | “Honor (Kabed) your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged upon the land.” | Modern culture encourages rebellion and abandonment of parents and covenant lineage. | Respect ancestral lineage, care for parents in age, and teach children the Torah diligently. |
| 6 | ”Thou shalt not kill.” | “You shall not murder (Lo Tirtzach).” | Modern bibles mistranslate murder as kill, creating confusion over lawful defense vs malicious shed blood. | Total sanctity of innocent human life; no malicious shed blood, abortion, or hatred in the heart (1 John 3:15). |
| 7 | ”Thou shalt not commit adultery.” | “You shall not commit adultery (Lo Tin’af).” | Modern media normalizes sexual immorality, pornography, and breaking of marriage vows. | Absolute marital fidelity. Honoring the set-apart covenant union between husband and wife. |
| 8 | ”Thou shalt not steal.” | “You shall not steal (Lo Tignov).” | Western systems legalized fractional reserve banking, wage suppression, and economic theft. | Honest scales, honoring debts, no theft of property, labor, or human freedom (kidnapping/trafficking). |
| 9 | ”Thou shalt not bear false witness.” | “You shall not testify as a deceitful witness against your neighbor (Lo Ta’aneh).” | Culture promotes gossip, slander, character assassination, and legal perjury. | Total truthfulness in speech. Never spread unverified rumors, slander a brother, or distort justice. |
| 10 | ”Thou shalt not covet.” | “You shall not lust after or covet (Lo Tachmod) your neighbor’s house, wife, or possessions.” | Commercial advertising is engineered entirely to induce continuous covetousness and discontent. | Contentment in Yahuah’s provision; rejoicing in your brother’s blessings without hidden envy. |
2. The Golden Test for Children: “The Two Tables”
Explain this to a child in 30 seconds:
- Table 1 (The First 4 Declarations): How we love our Father Yahuah. (Love His Name, destroy idols, rest with Him on Yom Shabbat).
- Table 2 (The Last 6 Declarations): How we love our brother and family. (Honor parents, no murder, no cheating, no stealing, no lying, no coveting).
When Yahusha was asked: “Which is the great commandment in the Torah?” He did not abolish the 10. He summarized the two tables:
“You shall love Yahuah your Elohim with all your heart… this is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two hang all the Torah and the Prophets.” (Mattithyahu 22:37–40).
4. Courtroom Cross-Examination (Oral Defense Q&A)
Use these questions and answers to teach your family or defend the truth when questioned:
Question 1: “Aren’t we saved by grace through faith, not by keeping commandments?”
- The Defense:
- Salvation is indeed by unmerited favor (grace) through faith in Yahusha Ha’Mashiach (Ephesians 2:8–9). You cannot earn your redemption.
- However, grace is not a license to commit crimes against Yahuah’s law (Romans 6:1–2). In ancient Yisra’ĕl, the people were redeemed from Mitsrayim by blood first, and then brought to Mount Sinai to receive the wedding vows (Aseret Ha’Devarim).
- Keeping the commandments is the fruit and evidence of true covenant love, not the purchase price of salvation (John 14:15: “If you love Me, keep My commandments”).
Question 2: “Didn’t Yahusha replace the 10 Commandments with just two commandments: Love God and Love your neighbor?”
- The Defense:
- Yahusha was quoting directly from the Old Testament: Deuteronomy 6:5 (Love Yahuah with all your heart) and Leviticus 19:18 (Love your neighbor as yourself).
- In Matthew 22:40, Yahusha said: “On these two commandments HANG all the Law and the Prophets.”
- A nail does not replace the picture frame; it holds it up! Commandments 1 through 4 define how to love Yahuah; Commandments 5 through 10 define how to love your neighbor. If you remove the 10, the two have no definition!
Question 3: “Why is the Sabbath the 4th Commandment so fiercely attacked?”
- The Defense:
- In Exodus 31:13 and Ezekiel 20:12, 20, Yahuah explicitly declares that the Sabbath is the sign (Ot) between Him and His people, that they may know that He is Yahuah who sanctifies them.
- The Sabbath carries the seal of the King: His Name (Yahuah), His Title (Creator), and His Territory (Heaven and Earth).
- By attacking the Sabbath, the enemy attempts to blot out the Creator’s signature of ownership over humanity.
