God (Gad / Gott) — The Unmasked Pagan Title
📜 Scriptural Foundation
“But ye are they that forsake Yahuah, that forget My holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop [Hebrew: לַגַּד - la’Gad / for God], and that furnish the drink offering unto that number [Meni].”
Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer.”
— Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 65:11–12“And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.”
— Shemot (Exodus) 23:13
🧭 Master Definition & Pagan Etymology
The English word “God” is NOT a Hebrew word, nor is it a translation of any inspired scriptural name. It is an unmasked pagan title and idol name that was substituted for the Hebrew titles Aluah (אֱלוֹהַּ) and Elohim (אֱלֹהִים).
The Two Historic Roots of “God”:
-
The Canaanite Deity of Fortune: GAD (גַּד)
- Pronounced in ancient Semitic dialects as Gawd or God.
- Gad was the Syrian, Phoenician, and Canaanite deity of good luck, fate, and financial fortune (associated with Jupiter/Meni).
- At the foot of Mount Hermon stood the ancient Canaanite worship center Baal-Gad (Joshua 11:17).
- In Isaiah 65:11, the Prophet explicitly condemns the apostate Israelites for preparing tables of food and wine offerings to “Gad” (God).
-
The Germanic / Teutonic Root: GOTT / GUD
- Derived from the Proto-Germanic *gudą, meaning “that which is invoked” or “the poured-out libation”.
- Used by pagan Norse and Teutonic tribes to designate their idols (Odin, Thor, Freyr).
- When the Roman Catholic Church converted the Germanic and Anglo-Saxon tribes, rather than teaching them the pure Hebrew names Yahuah and Aluah, they allowed them to retain their native pagan word Gott / God to refer to the Almighty.
⚖️ Scriptural Prohibition: Purging the Lip
Scripture strictly forbids using the names of false deities to refer to the Creator:
- Exodus 23:13: “Make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.”
- Hosea 2:17: “For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.”
- Zephaniah 3:9: “For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Yahuah, to serve Him with one consent.”
